Free Weight Loss Help – Be Prepared for Callous, Insensitive Remarks from “Friends” When You Diet

Beware! Your fair-weather friends are going to get nasty when you start losing weight! It’s hard to believe, but in America, about 65% of adults are overweight or obese! If you live there, you’re surrounded by fat folks getting fatter every day. Your friends may quickly give you advice and useless free weight loss help like “You weigh the same as me and I’m not fat. I’m fine!”
When you say, “I’m going on a diet,” it’s like saying, “I’m going on a trip.” You’re going away. You’re going away from muffin stuffing sessions with office coworkers. You’re going away from the cheese-covered nacho beer binges with your buddies. Your words and actions become a value judgment about them that says, “I don’t like how you look so I’m going my own way.”
Their criticism intensifies the further away you go. When you’ve dropped 25 lbs but still have 25 more to go, their jabs escalate: “You’re too skinny! You don’t look good.” Finally, when you look 10 years younger, reach your goal on the bottom end of standard height/weight charts, and are considering a modeling career, the abuse from family, friends and obese strangers gets out of control: “You’d better see a doctor! You’re an anorexic stick! You’d better join us everyday at the all-you-can-eat buffet!”
People around you are like mirrors that reflect you, especially those traits you don’t like about yourself. Just standard psychological behavior. Their resentment toward you is because you show your friends a part of themselves that they hate. By developing a strong will and succeeding, you fling your friends’ weaknesses in their face. The message is inevitable, though unintentional.
So how do you deal with this rejection and abuse of your dieting goals and dreams?First you probably want to fight back and shout a lot of “f” words other than, “Fill your fat face with these French fries and shut up!” (This will only raise your blood pressure, alienate your friends and does not work as free weight loss help.) The holier-than-thou, I’m-healthier-than-you approach is also hazardous because they may band together, crucify you and force-feed you Dunkin Donuts.
Relax, take a deep breath, and try to be like a duck or Gandhi, whichever suits your personality. Let the insults roll off your back or duck when you hear them coming. Gandhi quit eating and politely led millions of Indian people to their independence, just by being Gandhi. Focus on your convictions and just be you. Let your actions speak for themselves, silently giving everyone some free weight loss help they could use. ?
They may hear you if you speak from your heart, one that may be considerably healthier than theirs. Try to feel their sorrow they are experiencing inside. Try to understand they aren’t really talking to you. They’re talking to themselves. Just let them know how you feel, gently. “Thank you for your thoughts and opinions, but lately I’ve been feeling quite fine. And I love you just the way you are.”
